Maanen Faces is a rock band from Nantes, formed in 2021. Through their music, at the crossroads of psychedelia, stoner and doom, the band develops a dense and dark universe, inspired as much by Electric Wizard, Sonic Youth or Kyuss as by the more modern sounds of Deftones, Idles and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.
Composed of Emmanuel (bass, vocals), Clément (guitar), Julien (keyboards), and Thomas (drums), the band explores, like Selenite envoys lost on Earth, the existential and social crises of our time. It is mystical but without god, tragic yet still alive.
After a first EP, Damned and Doomed (2024), which dealt with the inner struggle against one’s own demons in a world already doomed by the system, Maanen Faces released in 2025 the album A Brilliant Future. This record, produced between Nantes and San Francisco, dives into a sonic dystopia where social revolts, technological alienation and the flight from death intertwine.
Off the beaten track, much like Magma, the band patiently builds its own universe on the fringes of the traditional scene, notably by organizing their festival Evil Town Party, which brings together independent bands each year in a unique atmosphere. On stage, the quartet unleashes a raw and hypnotic energy, able to turn each concert into an immersive experience. In 2024, they shared the stage with Qilin (stoner instrumental, Paris) and Slowbot(heavy/psych doom, Paris) at Supersonic (Paris).

A Brilliant Future, released in 2025, is a sonic journey through a dystopian universe, where our music captures the turmoil of an ultra-connected world.
Across six tracks, this new album explores social revolt, transhumanist drift and enslavement by artificial intelligence, but also suffering at work, family breakdown and the escape from death. A dark atmosphere, a raw energy, and an uncompromising vision of a future where, for us, technological progress is nothing more than another name for oppression.
This album was recorded live and mixed at Studio Rimshot Nantes, by Justin Nicquevert (Birds Of Nazca). For the mastering, we chose to work with Justin Weis (Acid King, Amenra, Sun Crow). We created the entire artwork ourselves. The release includes both a CD version and a DIY cassette version.
In 2024, we released a first short EP entitled Damned And Doomed, blending doom and cinematic horror. Here, the band began its exploration of the struggle for survival.
With this EP, we closed a chapter of the band, while at the same time defining the universe and themes we wanted to explore.
The EP is entirely DIY, based on recordings from the 2022–2023 period of the band. We worked ourselves on the live takes in the studio, the mixing, mastering, and production. We also created the full artwork. It is available on all streaming platforms, and we released a CD version.
